NBS 722 Kilimanjaro - Marangu Route

Duration:	7 Days and 6 Nights

Day 1:	Board your flight to Africa and being picked up from Airport to your hotel for bed and breakfast accommodation.

Day 2:	Around 8:30am picked up from your hotel and transfered to Marangu gate 1800m.Start walking to Mandara hut 2723m through a volcanic fossil for 3 - 4 hours(9km) for overnight.

Day 3:	Walk from Mandara hut to Horombo huts 3702m which takes 5 - 6 hours(12km).The route takes you through heavy forests and then cross open Savanna terrain.The giant lobelis begin to appear at 3350m.Dinner and overnight at Horombo huts.

Day 4:	Continue your ascent to Saddle(4750m) between Mawenzi(5180m) on your right and its Kibo on your left.Walk along the Saddle for 5kms,but because of the atitude,temprature is quite low and the walk is made at a slow pace.The night is spent at the Kibo huts.

Day 5:	Rise early and by about 12:00am - 1:00am start the final ascent to Gilman's point 5685m at the rim of the crater.You reach Gilman's point to witness the spectacular and unforgatable rise of the sun over Mawenzi.After signing the book you can proceed to Uhuru peak(5895m).Then return to Horombo huts for overnight.

Day 6:	A day is spent descending to Marangu park gate where you will be awarded certificates for those who managed to conquer the summit.Afterwards transfered to Arusha/Moshi hotels.(B & B)

Day 7:	Transfer to Airport for your flight back OR Safari extensions.


Details:	Though the least scenic of the routes up the mountain, it remains the most popular. Firstly because at present it is the only route with sufficient/comfortable accommodation for the, sometimes, hundreds of daily visitors. Secondly, it has a more gentle "walk in" towards the actually cone of Kibo.OPTION:You can have a day to acclimatize at Horombo huts on request and please add $100 per person per day.
